Artist Statement
My practice explores intuitive painting through colour, texture, and mixed media. Beginning with a loose premise rather than a fixed outcome, each work develops through layering, response, and a process of visual problem solving.
I work initially in small-scale series, often in groups of three, using time constraints to maintain immediacy and avoid overworking. This approach encourages instinctive decision-making and preserves a sense of energy within the work.
These small works act as both resolved pieces and starting points. They allow me to test ideas quickly and often inform the development of larger formats or commissioned works, where compositions and colour relationships are expanded and refined.
Nature is an ongoing influence, offering endless variation in form, colour, and rhythm. Rather than replicate what is seen, I focus on interpretation — using abstraction and materiality to create space for the viewer’s imagination.
Colour sits at the centre of my practice. It is both the greatest challenge and the most critical element in resolving a work.
The resulting paintings function as intimate visual fragments — at once personal and open-ended — reflecting a perspective grounded in curiosity, optimism, and a quiet sense of possibility.
